November News 2007

If you go down to the woods today…

Primary 1 and 2 have been very busy this month. They have been looking at toys and building cars and trucks from junk. They then celebrated Children in Need day by having their very own Teddy Bear’s Picnic. They made tiny buns and sandwiches and brought their own special friends to school to join in the party.

On 15th November they were joined by children from Kilrea Playgroup for a visit from Wildlife N.I. They found out about the work of the group and saw hedgehogs, snakes, spiders and a chameleon.

School Days! P3 and 4 have been learning about school in the past. They even had an old fashioned school day when they wrote with ink pens, used slates and played traditional playground games. The rest of the time they have been practising their play of the story of Daniel to perform in their special assembly.

Shock Tactics: P5 and 6 have been learning about the uses and dangers of electricity. They have also been discussing the problems we may face if we continue to use such high levels of fossil fuels and what other sources we could use when they run out.

Bombay Dreams: Primary 7 are glad to have finished their transfer work and have continued their study of India. They have even made their own curry from scratch! In art they are making Viking helmets and building a whole range of vehicles and machines in technology.

Bright Sparks: T
his month we have had a range of speakers on the world around us. ‘Think Differently’, the science workshop, demonstrated a whole range of exciting experiments. P1-4 learned about science in the kitchen including floating and sinking and how to make fizzy water go pop. P5-7 investigated how light travels and why lightning arrives before the thunder. This week NI Energy Agency came to visit to explain why it is so important to use less energy and they showed us how to make our homes more energy efficient by insulating, turning off electrical appliances properly and using energy saving light bulbs.

HOUSE! The winning houses for September and October were Movanagher and Portna respectively. The winners for November will be announced next week.

Miller Greeting: Once again this has been well supported. If you have not received your order please speak to Dorothy or one of the teachers. Alternatively, you can send a note and your child can collect it.

Don’t Forget! Kilrea Christmas Lights are being turned on this Saturday, 1st December; Santa arrives at the Diamond around 4.00p.m and afterwards there will be fireworks in the school grounds. Once again the PTA will be selling hotdogs to help warm those frozen spectators. Come along and help us begin the Christmas celebrations with a bang!
