New Faces, New Places

We held our ‘Get to Know You’ night on Wednesday 25th September 2012 when parents were invited to come along and have an informal chat, both to the teachers and each other.  Thanks again to all those who attended.  If you missed it there will be a second chance to catch up at the Big Star, Little Star disco and AGM on Thursday 24th October 2013.  The fun starts at 7.30 pm.

 Class Updates

P1 & 2 have been learning about creation, the seasons and how things grow, both above and below the ground.  They have been collecting pine cones and leaves and looking at their many colours as well as using them for their art work by painting pictures and making interesting creatures.

Primary 3 & 4 are lucky enough to have two teachers this year.  Mrs Roulston on Mondays and Miss McKeown the rest of the week.  They have been studying houses and buildings.  As well as surveying the different buildings on the Lisnagrot Road and looking at the design of their own they have been building castles and skyscrapers out of junk.
P5 & 6 are realising that there’s ‘No Place like Home’.  They have been looking at maps to find where they are in the world and researching landmarks around Northern Ireland.  They have also been writing about the best aspects of their own homes and what makes them special to them.
P7 are learning about Northern Ireland too and have been researching people and places from around the province.  They have discovered that there have been some very influential scientists and inventors from our wee country as well as world class sporting and business people.

Kidz and Co

Kidz and Co is back on this year, between 10 a.m. and 12 noon on Wednesday mornings in the school assembly hall. All Mums, Dads, grandparents or child-minders who have small babies or toddlers at home are welcome to come along, have a cuppa and catch up while the kids play.

Eco-Warriors

Mrs Anderson and her Eco-Committee are once again hard at work to ensure we retain our Eco-Flag, of which we are very proud.  Already this term they have organised a sale of ‘organic’ produce from the school garden and have helped load the bags of clothing and textiles to be sent off to ‘Cash for Clobber’. Thanks again for all your efforts, helping us to both recycle and raise money for the school.

Sporting Heroes

This term’s after-school club has been golf, taken by Tony, the local golf development officer who is hoping to discover Kilrea’s answer to Rory McIlroy. Mrs Cooper is also working hard with the football team to prepare them for the first of this year’s matches, if the rain ever stops!  If any parents are available to help with transportation or to supervise at school events please see Mrs Cooper to fill in the appropriate vetting forms.

International Links

The European Day of Languages was celebrated on Friday 27th September with games and activities using as many different languages as possible.  This has become an annual event and is one of the activities which have helped us gain the International School Award.  If you know of anyone who has been on an interesting expedition recently please contact Miss Steele as we would love to hear all about it.

Thanks
